Abstract

Bio-lubricants are made up of the various edible and non-edible oils mixed with the engine oil. The environmental issues of conventional lubricants have led to the development of environmental friendly oils. These lubricants can be used for applications where there is an environmental risk. Vegetable oils are renewable resources and are readily biodegradable. The paper investigates Coconut oil blended with the conventional mineral oil in proportion of 10%, 15%, 20%. The physical and chemical properties of the bio-lubricant prepared are studied and a comparison of the properties of the bio-lubricants and unblended engine oil are carried out. Performance tests are conducted to study the effect of these lubricants on the IC engine performance.
