Abstract: The rapid growth of population in urban areas of developing cities has resulted in massive traffic congestion and the various difficulties associated with it. The solution to this challenging issue is to achieve a sustainable system of transportation. The essentiality of sustainable transportation can be understood by the concept of vicious circle of congestion in which the road infrastructure to be provided is directly proportional to the demand which delays the problem instead of solving it as it is unfeasible to increase the road infrastructure in the later stages due to ribbon development.The sustainable mobility is a very complex engineering science and cannot be generalised everywhere in the world due to social, cultural, geographical and environment diversifications. In this analysis, an attempt has been made to study the sustainability of the transportation system in Jammu and Kashmir, the northern most state of India. The current approach followed in Jammu and Kashmir is Vehicle Oriented Approach (VOA), whereas, the rise in the traffic congestion problems show that this is not a fundamental approach and People Oriented Approach (POA) is strongly recommended at the planning stage to solve the problem sustainably. Instead of increasing the road capacity by road widening, underpasses, flyover, etc., there is a need to adopt the optimization techniques in traffic management and focus should be on decreasing the traffic volume. Emphasis should be laid on various sustainable modes of transportation like walkability, bicycling, Non-Motorized Transportation (NMT), water transportation, Bus Rapid Transportation System (BRTS), etc. It would be wise to leapfrog by considering the condition of developed cities that have already faced and overcome this problem. One of the best examples of such developed nations is
Netherlands, where remarkable changes have been observed in the liveability and mobility after adopting the sustainable transportation systems.

Abstract: Large scale industrialization and commercial activities since independence have resulted into an unprecedented traffic growth. The share of the road transport, in the last four decades, has increased from 26% to 80% for passenger traffic and from 11% to 60% for goods traffic. Due to paucity of the resources, stage construction practices have thus for been followed for the development of trunk roads. The network now is greatly short of its structural capacity for the present day unanticipated high traffic volumes. The increase in vehicle population during the same period has been about 70 times. The pace of growth of road infrastructure has not been commensurate with the growth of traffic. The road length has increased from 4 lack km in 1951 to only about 21 lack km in 1995. The trunk road network, consisting of NHs and SHs, through only about 8% of total road length, is responsible for catering to about 2/3 of goods traffic carried by the road sector in the country.

PMS includes activities with design, construction and maintenance of pavements. The PMS systems have become important tools for the road engineer to organize the activities of the road sector to meet the ever increasing demands of growing traffic in a developing country like India. The highway profession is at the crossroads and there are challenges, threats and pressures from all directions. Concerted efforts are now underway to developed road management and planning tools to improve upon the existing road network under the financial constraints. These tools are essential for the assessing the financial needs of the highway sector, evaluating the alternative maintenance strategies and prioritizing the work programs.

In this study, an attempt is made to development of pavement deterioration models to estimate the performance of the road network and to predict future deterioration levels of pavements with minimum data. For analysis selected stretches on the five major road networks in Warangal city are used to measure the various parameters related to pavement evaluation and data so obtained is used for development of the maintenance strategies for various distress Which are observed on the pavement?

Urban Farming supposedly has potential for urban areas to have in any event some measure of Food Security. Urban farming is a procedure of utilizing imaginative logical cultivating methods to create high return and high calibre of
new natural nourishment in extremely restricted urban regions like porches and galleries, all year - round. It supposedly has numerous points of interest including non-reliance on impulses of Climate, utilization of reused water from Sewage and regarded Wet waste as fertilizer, nearness of makers to shoppers, decrease of carbon impressions and so forth. The Concept of Urban Vertical Farm has been around since the 80's yet the Urban Farming Industry isn't developing so quickly. Abstract: Forming process is a very economical process as the desired shape, size and finish can be obtained without any significant loss of material. So the wastage of material in metal working processes is either negligible or very small, and the production is in general is very high. These two factors give rise to the economy in production. Moreover, a part of input energy is utilized in improving the strength of the product. Deep drawing is a simple non-steady state sheet metal forming process for making seamless shells, cups and boxes of various shapes. Though the process is simple it has several parameters determining the outcome and the analysis of the process can be complex. The parameters include the draw ratio, die and punch radii, blank holder force, blank holder and die friction and lubrication, material properties, such as the stress–strain curve, anisotropy, grain size, etc. To produce cups of satisfactory quality the right combination of the parameters must prevail in the drawing process. The maximum draw ratio possible is governed by the material properties, the stress needed to radially draw the metal into the die cavity, frictional resistances at the flange of the cup being drawn and at the die radius and the bending and unbending at the die radius. The drawing force and the energy needed are provided by the punch. Variations to the simple or conventional deep drawing processes make use of flexible tool materials such as urethane, hydraulic pressure or other aids. In deep drawing process, the various defects are occurred in the forming of cups such as
wrinkling in flange, wrinkling in wall, tearing, earing, localized necking and fracture. The blank is drawn radially inwards the flange undergoes radial tension and circumferential compression. The latter may cause wrinkling of the flange if the draw ratio is large, or if the cup diameter-to-thickness ratio is high. A blank-holder usually applies sufficient pressure on the blank to prevent wrinkling. Radial tensile stress on the flange being drawn is produced by the tension on the cup wall induced by the punch force. Hence, when drawing cups at larger draw ratios, larger radial tension are created on the flange and higher tensile stress is needed on the cup wall. Bending and unbending over the die radius is also provided by this tensile stress on the cup wall. In addition, the tension on the cup wall has
to help to overcome frictional resistance, at the flange and at the die radius. As the tensile stress that the wall of the cup can withstand is limited to the ultimate tensile strength of the material. In this paper presents the parametric study on deep drawing with presentations with influence of friction and lubrication to be studied.

Abstract: The improvement in the properties of expansive soils, as road subgrade stabilized with chloride compounds varying in percentages. Laboratory tests were undertaken to study the strength characteristics of expansive soils performed on natural soil samples. Expansive soils such as black cotton soils are basically susceptable to determinental volumetric changes, with changes in moisture. This behaviour of soil is attributed to the presence of mineral montmorillonite, which has an expanding lattice .Understanding the behaviour of expansive soil and adopting the appropriate control measures have been great task for the geotechnical engineers extensive research is going on to find the solutions to black cotton soils there have been many methods available to controlling the
expansive nature of the soils. An infrastructure project for instance Highways Railways, reclamation etc require earth material in very huge quantity. Fairly often large areas are covered with highly plastic and clayey soils. Extensive laboratory and field trials have been carried out by various researches and have shown promising results for application of such expansive soils after Stabilization. soft soils form problematic sub grade for pavements due to its low bearing capacity and strength. Pavement loads carrying on the soft sub grade soil may cause detrimental pumping actions. when they are located in areas with high water table which cause both construction and in service performance problems. The common solutions on encountering such problems include excavation and replacement of soils. By chemical stabilization with chlorides NACL, CACL2. On certain properties of soil such as OMC, MDD, UCC,
CBR has been studied under both heavy and light compaction. Hence in the present work experimentation is carried out to investigate the influence of chlorides including Nacl,Cacl2 on the engineering properties of expansive soils. Various amounts of salts (0.5%,1% ,1.5%,2.0%) were added to the soil to study the effect of salts on the compaction characteristics, consistency limits, compressive strength, ucsand cbr.The present investigation on expansive soils with chloride compounds

Abstract: Increase in energy consumption of portable electronic devices and the concept of harvesting renewable energy in human surrounding arouse a renewed interest. This technical paper focuses on one such advanced method of energy harvesting using piezoelectric material. Piezoelectric materials can be used as mechanisms to transfer mechanical energy, usually ambient vibration, into electrical energy that can be stored and used to power other devices. A piezoelectric substance is one that produces an electric charge when a mechanical stress is applied. Conversely, a mechanical deformation is produced when an electric field is applied. Piezo-film can generate enough electrical density that can be stored in a rechargeable battery for later use. Piezoelectric materials have a vast application in real fields. Some of the latest applications are mentioned below. Currently, there is a need to utilize alternative forms of energy at passenger terminals like airports and railways across the world. Cleaner, more sustainable forms of electrical power are needed in order to keep costs lower, to maintain positive and productive relationships with neighbors and to insure a healthier environment for future generations. The use of piezoelectric devices installed in terminals will enable the capturing of kinetic energy from foot traffic. This energy can then be used to offset some of the power coming from the main grid. Such a source of power can then be used to operate lighting systems. The increasing prevalence and portability of compact, low power electronics requires reliable power sources. Compared to batteries, ambient energy harvesting devices show much potential as power sources. A piezoelectric generator can be developed that harvests mechanical vibrations energy available on a bicycle. The electrical energy thus produced can be used to power devices aboard the bike, or other portable devices that the cyclist uses. Electrical energy can also be generated from traffic vibrations (vibrations in the road surface) using piezoelectric material.

Abstract: The rising cost of construction material is a matter of concern hence, the high cost of conventional construction material affects economy of structure. Therefore the coconut fibre as partial replacement for fine aggregate in concrete is studied. For this study, coconut fibres were used as they are freely available in large quantities. The study comprises of comparative statement of properties of coconut fibre reinforced concrete with conventional concrete based on experiments performed in the laboratory. The use of coconut fibres will also lead to better management of these waste fibres. Lack of raw materials and their increased cost is a matter of concern. The reason behind that is increased demand of construction materials like cement, aggregates which are the major ingredients of concrete. Hence the number of researches and experimental investigations are conducting to find the suitable alternative materials for concrete ingredients. In this manner the study was conducted on concrete by partial replacement of coconut fibre as fine aggregate. In this study M25 grade concrete was produced with the 5 mix proportions (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%) replacement partially the coir fibre with weight of fine aggregate. Total 90 specimens(30 cubes, 30 cylinders & 30 prisms) were casted for comparative analysis between conventional concrete, manufactured sand concrete and coir fiber replaced concrete by conducting compressive, split tensile and flexural strength tests at 7 days and 28 days respectively. Workability of concrete was decreased with an increase of fibre fraction, but flexural strength and compressive strength increased with the addition of coir up to some extent. The results and observations attained from this study concludes that, addition of coir fibre increases the crack resistance of concrete, produces the structural light weight material and the suitable alternative partial replacement of coconut fibre as fine aggregate in order to overcome the lack of that. Hence the coir fibre can be used in construction and can reduce environmental waste by proper utilization. Also the use of coir fibre is cost effective and eco friendly.
